18 Sep Do I Have to See a Chiropractor for Life?
One of the most common things that patients are nervous about when coming to see a chiropractor for the first time is the misconception that they will have to see a chiropractor for life.
As a chiropractor, I thought I would share my perspective and answer this question for existing and prospective patients who are curious about chiropractic care and how it works.
Schedule of Care
Chiropractors are health practitioners who focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions, primarily within the spine. When we have a new patient at Wellspring we conduct a thorough examination, postural assessment, and consultation. Once our exam has been conducted we will explain your condition and recommend a schedule of care. The schedule of care will usually span over a number of months, as we use all-natural therapies to help the body function better. This is an acute treatment model where patients have a specific problem they would like to have treated.
The Chiropractic Wellness Model
In addition to this, we have a chiropractic wellness model. A chiropractic wellness model is where you receive routine chiropractic adjustments. These routine adjustments keep your body functioning at an optimal level, which allows you to maintain great health. I like to compare this concept to dentistry: everyone knows you should go to the dentist every 6 months for a regular check-up and clean in order to maintain oral health and hygiene. Why shouldn’t we give our spines routine maintenance as well?
After going through an acute care model where we have diagnosed and treated their condition, many patients realise that they feel and function much healthier. These clients will become chiropractic clients for life because they see the benefit of the care, much like seeing a dentist to maintain oral health.
So… do you HAVE to see a chiropractor for life after you’ve started treatment? No! But SHOULD you see a chiropractor for life? Yes!
