Why Chiropractic?

Pregnancy is a time that requires and needs everything in the body to be working to its full potential.  Getting regular chiropractic adjustments during this exciting time is not only recommended, but also absolutely necessary to maintain health, vitality, mobility and overall wellbeing.
This period of rapid development, hormonal changes, the laxity of connective ligaments, and shifting of weight-bearing structures, may cause many pregnant women to experience low back pain.  Chiropractic care can be quite helpful.
Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy restores balance to the pelvic muscles and ligaments and therefore leads to safer and easier deliveries for both mum and baby.  Additionally, chiropractic adjustments allow the uterus to function at its maximum potential. A fully functioning nervous system means there is greater chance of healthy development of the new baby.

When can I be adjusted?

We recommend that if mum is not already under regular chiropractic care when she becomes pregnant, that she starts care as soon as possible to maximise the benefits.  Chiropractic care is safe to both baby and mum-to-be.  As a result many mums decide to be adjusted right up until their due date to ensure their health is at its best at all times.  It is not regarded as safe to be x-rayed at any time during the pregnancy, except in absolute emergencies.  With this in mind many chiropractors will not require x-rays, though they may be necessary after the birth.

Tips to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Physical – walk regularly, stay active, regular adjustments, stretching (Pilates), massage
Chemical – drink 1.5 L water/day, green leafy vegetables, omega 3 supplements, avoid chemicals and medications
Emotional – walk regularly, rest, meditate
